Those who are writing it can alter history. Knowledge shared verbally by some is written by others. Family histories pasted by word of mouth, or in fine manuscripts. Family histories can go back centuries. 

The further back, the more blurred and confused it becomes - times or dates need to be determined. 

In many families the first-born son, takes his father's name, and often without a middle name. 

Therefore, you can see where confusion arises.
