Be on your way: you parasite
The sign on the door said welcome: I was made to feel important: I provided my name: date of birth: confirmed who I was: and why I am here: I handed over my appointment card to prove: it was them: who had invited me.
A door opened: no going back now.
I removed my shoes: Jase ( the nurse) lay me on the bed: Paul ( the doctor) made a tattoo on my thigh:
I felt the pain of the needle: as it made its way into the muscles of my thigh: Jase tapped rhythmically on my other leg: as the numbness overtook the pain:
Paul assured me: I would feel nothing as a scalpel cut through my old skin and muscle: deep inside my thigh.
Music played in the background: a calming melody of sorts: interrupted occasionally by conversation and the sounds of surgical tools: as they were used and returned to the sterile container.
Time has a habit of passing before you realise that time is passing.
As I lay there sharing all my life stories: with two total strangers: needles with cotton stuff: were being driven: this way and that way: being tied off: everything drenched in a yellow sterilised type of cleaning liquid.
45 minutes and it was over.
Jase and Paul explained all the things: I should not do over the next fortnight.
I returned my shoes to my feet: walked ever so slowly to pay the bill: the receptionist ( Petra: from Slovakia ) she took my $600.00 with a pleasant smiled and said come back in a fortnight.
Now I have numbness in my head and in my thigh: pain in my eye and in my big toe: but thank goodness.
I have coffee and chocolate biscuits in the fridge…
…life is wonderful xx
