Mirrors

Twin Coated Mirror

Twin coated mirror has two coats of special backing paint applied during the manufacturing process, giving substantial protection to the mirror, resulting in a high quality product.

The tin, copper and silver coatings on the mirror are sealed by two coats of paint, the base coat to protect against chemical attack and corrosion and the top coat to resist mechanical abrasion.

Mirrors come in thicknesses between 3 and 6mm. There are standard stock sheet sizes, but most mirrors are cut to size as required.

Vinyl Back Safety Mirror

Vinyl Back Safety Mirror provides double protection in the event of accidental breakage. If broken, fragments of glass do not fall out so serious injuries will not occur.

4mm Vinyl Back Mirror is a stock thickness, but the safety vinyl can be applied to other thicknesses as required.

Edgework and Holes

Modern engineering machinery provides a wide variety of edgework.

Most common finishes are Flat polished edges and bevelled edges (refer to Glass Processing).

Holes can be drilled to take screw fixing.

Mirror Fixing

Gluing Mirrors : Use a water based adhesive product in conjunction with double sided tape.

Adhesives : Apply in straight vertical lines (10 to 12mm bead widths). Do not loop or cross the tape. The double sides tape gives instant holding power while slower curing adhesive sets.

Mounting : Holes should be drilled a minimum of 50mm for each edge. A space should be allowed between the wall and mirror for ventilation.

Framed : Mirrors can be framed on all four sides or just the top & bottom edges. There are a number of mounting systems on the market, either timber or Aluminium. The Mirox Fineline Mirror Mount is aluminium and available in a range of colours including Gold, Silver, White, Almond, ivory and Apricot.

Mirrors should not be mounted directly onto untreated surfaces such as concrete, unpainted plaster, plywood, etc. (chemical releases by these surfaces will corrode the mirror backings).

Mirror edge sealant should be applied to the edge of any mirror in a wet area.

When screwing mirrors, a space should be left between the wall and mirror for ventaltion. Holes a minimum of 50mm in each way

Cleaning of Mirrors

A recommended glass and mirror cleaner is "Hi Sheen", a all purpose - industrial strength cleaner (foaming action - no streaking or smearing, ozone friendly).

To remove stains from a glass surface a product called "Worksite" is also available.

Heated Mirror Pads - Mirror Demisters

Simply attaches to the back of any mirror, no transformers or thermostats. Safety approved.

Sizes to suits most mirrors.
