Impact Strength - Safety Glass

 

Float Glass

Float glass does not resist high stresses from the impact of an object. When broken, it shatters into large sharp pieces.

Heat Strengthened Glass

Heat strengthened class is about twice as strong as annealed float glass and is used generally as a protection against thermal breakage.

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass has much less resistance to impact than toughened glass, about the same as that of its float glass composition.

If broken, it remains intact on its interlayer film and the splinters do not fly out.
Because of its high resistance to penetration, laminated glass is very safe and can be used for a wide range of applications.

Toughened Glass

Toughened glass is up to five times stronger than float glass and offers the highest resistance to impact. It is ideal for application in doors, etc.

If broken, the whole pane of glass shatters into small pieces of blunt granules which are relatively safe.
Additionally, the shattered glass falls out quite easily.

 

Security Glass

Laminated Glass is manufactured by adhering two or more sheets of glass together with a flexible interlayer.

The Interlayer can be clear or Tinted.

The glass can be cut to size and is a Grade A Safety glass. The standard interlayer thickness is .38mm

Stock Laminated glass is available ex factory in 6.38, 8.38, 10.38 and 12.38mm thicknesses.

 

Uses for this type of glass are for Security and Safety purposes.

1. 6.38mm thickness minimum - for Protection from Entry and Injuries.

2. 10.38mm thickness - for Protection from Impact in Partitions.

3. 11.5mm thickness (not stock size) - Anti Bandit : Protection from Burglary.

Here a interlayer thickness of 1.5mm is used giving a greater strength to the glass.

4. Multi-glass panels and interlayers are used for variable thickness - Protection from Firearms, Bullet Resistant.

 

Sound Control

Acoustic Grade Laminated Glass specifically designed to reduce sound intrusion into buildings.

Acoustic glass consists of two glass thicknesses with a 1.0mm or 1.5mm limpid acoustic interlayer. This product has excellent reduction properties due to the elastic nature of the special PMMA interlayer.

 

The interlayer acts as a sound damper, acoustic glass properly installed can reduce the passage of sound through windows by about 38 decibels.

 

Acoustic glass is ideally suited to application where noise prevents normal conversation, relaxation and efficient working conditions such as in houses, offices or hotels.

 

Percieved Sound Reduction

  • Standard 6.38mm Laminated glass

3mm / .38mm / 3mm

= 40 % Sound Reduction
  • Soundstop 7mm Laminated glass

3mm/ 1.0mm PMMA/ 3mm

= 52% Sound Reduction
Both of these products can be glazed into standard window frames as long as a clean rebate and adequate drainage is provided.

 

UV Resistant

An anti-fade interlayer risen is used to reduce UV light sun rays.
